Learn about the hospice care levels and how our patients experience them.

What Are the Four Levels of Hospice Care?

Hospice is a type of comfort care patients receive in several care settings: in their homes, nursing care facilities, assisted living communities, or hospice houses.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services identifies four hospice care levels. Some individuals may receive all four levels in varying degrees of time, perhaps in days or months. Each hospice care level caters to a patient’s unique needs and situation.

Every Medicare-certified hospice provider must provide these four levels of care:

  • Hospice Care at HomeFAVOURED HOSPICE provides care for patients and their families who wish to receive hospice care at home. Our home hospice care team conducts routine visits to ensure their comfort and dignity. We do not charge for diagnosis-specific equipment, supplies, and medication.
  • Continuous Hospice CareHospice care providers must offer continuous hospice care when medically necessary. At FAVOURED HOSPICE, we call it Intensive Comfort Care: 24/7 hospice care to manage patients’ acute symptoms and avoid hospitalization until routine services can resume.
  • Inpatient Hospice CareFAVOURED HOSPICE‘s inpatient hospice care provides 24/7 support if symptoms are unmanageable at home. We offer such a service until the patient can return home. Our homely inpatient hospice care facilities offer similar services to an acute-care facility with homelike amenities.
  • Respite CareWhenever our patient‘s primary caregiver wishes to pursue respite from their duties, our patients temporarily stay in a Medicare-certified inpatient hospice setting. Respite care aims to help prevent caregivers from experiencing burnout— thus, ensuring patients a more efficient care experience.
